Overview

Our two communities - malmal.app and HelloPaint.io - offer a fun and safe place for users to connect with one another through the world of collaborative drawing. We encourage our users to collaborate, share, and communicate, and any behaviour that intentionally detracts from others' enjoyment is not tolerated. To maintain a positive and nurturing community, we expect all of our users to treat each other with respect and promote an enjoyable environment.

In this document, you will find a list of site-wide rules and an FAQ section to answer common questions on reacting to rule violations and navigating malmal.app and HelloPaint.io in a positive manner.

Rules

The following guidelines have been created for our users to follow; by using malmal.app and Hellopaint.io, you agree to uphold these rules and our Terms of Service and keep our community safe and welcoming. Failure to follow these rules may result in a mute, kick, warning, ban, or other account restrictions as deemed appropriate by the overseeing Moderator(s).

If you come across a user violating the policies below, we encourage you to report them. Please refer to our FAQ section for more information on the best ways to report different types of rule violations.

Our Moderators are passionate about keeping the community healthy and happy, and are always willing to investigate rule violations or situations that otherwise disrupt the community and its members. Until HelloPaint.io implements a Moderator report function, Moderators should be requested through our Discord server. This can be done by opening a support ticket in the #support channel.

Important Reminders:

In the end, this is a drawing site where artists all over the world can collaborate and have fun together! Let's set the tone right by respecting each other and promoting a safe environment.

1. No Spamming in Chat

Intentionally spamming text in chat interferes with the flow of conversation and disrupts other users. Examples of spam include intentionally sending multiple messages of random letters, using unreadable fonts in messages, writing long paragraphs that require scrolling the chat-box to read in their entirety, pasting song lyrics or copypastas without context, posting long links, etc.

2. No Not-Safe-For-Work Art or Topics in Public Areas

Refrain from drawing, sharing, or discussing explicit material in any public malmal.app Drawing Boards or malmal.app’s Discord server. Explicit drawings on the canvas and conversations in malmal.app’s built-in chat must be limited to Drawing Boards that have the NSFW tag. Explicit content and conversations in malmal.app’s Discord server must be limited to NSFW channels.

“Explicit” content includes but is not limited to nudity, suggestive or erotic material, 18+ conversations and references, disruptive usage of profanity, depictions of gore, and contentious, extreme, or illegal subject matter. When in doubt about a drawing or conversation topic, it is best to use an NSFW Drawing Board or Discord channel.

3. No Harassment Towards Other Users

We do not tolerate user harassment in our community - targeted harassment is severely and strictly bannable. Racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist and all other discriminitory remarks and drawings will be viewed as harassment and are subject to the same consequences.

In addition, verbal harassment includes slurs, death threats, doxxing, and repeated unwanted contact through private boards and comment threads in a user’s gallery. Erasing or scribbling over others’ artwork is considered a form of non-verbal harassment. Collaboration is encouraged, but please ask for permission before drawing with others.

In the event of verbal harassment, it is recommended to first ask the offender to stop. If harassment continues, disengage and create a support ticket in our Discord server with supporting evidence to alert a Moderator. Engaging with the perpetrator may subject you to harassment as well. Remember that the Moderator's responsibility in these situations is to de-escalate, not to mediate the situation or take sides.

User drama that is willingly engaged in does not fall under our community rules as harassment as it is a decision made to participate.

4. Be Respectful and Avoid Contentious Subjects

To promote the safety of our community and stay in line with the main purpose of our site - a collaborative drawing art platform - avoid discussions on contentious topics and treat your fellow community members with respect. Contentious subjects include conversations about controversial topics that may instigate heated arguments and debates. Respectful, thoughtful discussion on controversial topics is allowed on private boards, but is not allowed on public boards.

If you notice your comments are making users uncomfortable, please consider being respectful and adjusting your behaviour to promote a safe and welcoming environment.

5. Proper Gallery Posting

Gallery posts are a great place to capture snippets of the passion and creativity of our community. First and foremost, images posted to your gallery should be created by you or, for collaborations, contain contributions from you. Do not post others’ work to your gallery, as this is disrespectful to the artist.

It is expected that a reasonable amount of effort be put into content that is posted to the gallery. This means that posts limited to random lines or scribbles, handwritten text, or other low-effort content intended to increase a user’s Karma are subject to removal by the Moderation team.

It is acceptable to publish in-progress versions of your work to the gallery, ,however, please refrain from posting the same drawing multiple times with minimal change to the piece. These are referred to as “duplicate posts” and are subject to removal by the Moderation team.

6. Proper Use of Reports and Tickets

We encourage you to report any user and Moderators that are behaving in a disrespectful manner and in violation of our site Rules. However, falsely reporting another user with the sole intent of restricting them is an abuse of the report system and will result in penalties to your account.

7. NSFW Content

On the malmal.app website, there is a setting to opt into viewing NSFW boards and gallery submissions. This feature is only available on the web platform and is not available on the iOS or Android apps. You may only enable this if you are at least 18 years of age. If you enable this and are found to be under 18, you will be banned from the site, no questions asked.

Drawing and discussing NSFW content on boards that do not have the NSFW tag is strictly prohibited.
